Europe’s Migration Crisis

For the past year, the story of Europe’s migrant crisis has captured the world’s attention. Each day, thousands are arriving in Europe from war-torn parts of the Middle East and in search of safety, freedom and economic opportunity. Many have argued that Europe simply cannot afford to continue taking in refugees, with the strain upon government resources already proving to be profound. However, given the demographic challenges countries like Germany face going forward, some have argued Europe cannot afford not to accept more immigrants. Should Germany create a successful paradigm to integrate refugees, both culturally and economically, it could be applied elsewhere in the demographically challenged West.
